What is a riverine civilization?

The riverine civilizations are considered to be the first complex, politically centralized civilizations. These civilizations first formed along a number of river valleys throughout the southern half of Asia and northern Africa. They formed along the river valleys because the rivers supplied continuous or a dependable flow and supply of water for farming and human consumption.
