Why your trunk was open with out key?

If it only did this once, there is the possibility of human error, Accidentally bumping the button or not getting the trunk latched. Could be an electrical problem, couple of broken wires shorting across or the switch could be going bad in the car. Or if it is just warn out and the latch is not working properly (Rusted, warn or weak spring or hinge).
