According to the Social Security Administration, Michael (36,600 births) and Emily (26,173 births) were the most popular boy and girl baby names respectively in the U.S. in 1998.
The next most popular boy names were Jacob, Matthew, Joshua and Christopher. Hannah, Samantha, Ashley, and Sarah rounded out the top five girl names.
