If an insured worker has paid 40 quarters of coverage, they are generally considered fully insured under Social Security. This status qualifies them for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits if they meet the definition of disability. To be eligible, the worker must also have a medical condition that significantly impairs their ability to work and is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death.
