Absolutely!
For quite some time, I had a similar problem. A woman with the same first and last name who happens to live in the same area as I do, apparently had some pretty bad credit.
Several times when I had to have a credit check run - refinancing our house, a home equity loan - a loan officer or bank rep. would contact me and ask about certain things that they found on my credit report.
After the first incident, I'd just start saying 'check the SS#'. Sure enough they would check and find that the SS numbers were different. Finally, one particularly nice loan officer told me she would take care of setting the record straight. I haven't had any problems since.
Based on my own experience, I'd suggest you contact the 3 credit reporting agencies, explain the problem, and see what they can do for you. And suggest that the SS#'s be used to sort things out, if they don't suggest it first. It certainly fixed my problem.
Good Luck

In the case of a father and son with same name you may have to provide the credit repositories (Equifax, Trans Union and Experian with proof that an account belongs to the son or father by mailing them a copy of a recent statement showing a different address and account number. Identity proof (drivers license) may also be required.
