These two arts are very different from each other. Western boxing, or English boxing only uses punches in fights. The strenght of this art is the efficiency of the weight transfer in the punching techniques, resulting is very fast and powerful techniques. However, the repertoire of techniques in boxing is somewhat limited as one can use punches; there are no kick, elbows or backfists.

Thai boxing, or muai thai, is a martial art that uses an extremely wide range of techniques. Punches, kicks, elbows, and knee are all permitted and a big part of fights happens in the clinch (standing grappling. However, the fighters may not take the fight to the ground.
