Scripting languages, of which
JavaScript is one, are light-weight programming languages (i.e. not a fully featured programming languages) that exist to enhance HTML and web pages so that they are dynamic or interactive. They interact with, amend or generate HTML. They would not have any function outside of a web page environment.
