Faulty conformation can be a number of things , but basically it's non-conformity to a breed standard set by a recognized group of authorities. Let's take dogs, for example, breed standards include range od acceptable heights and weight. Coloring and coat texture. Length and curvature of tail, and whether or not it may be docked[cut off]. Same with ears. Some may be docked for show . Skeletal structure, including length of muzzle , breadth and depth of chest, width of shoulders, proper spinal alignment , ears set in the proper position on the head , and even tail placement.Hips, knees , feet and even dentition are checked. Not just good dental health, but even natural -born snaggle-toothedness can be cause for marks off, and stride of various paces and behavior are all considered in the show ring. Pet standards are much less stringent. A heathy dog , easy to train, and with a good disposition is all most people want. Next time you watch a dog show, watch the Judge. A good experienced Judge can run his/her hands over an animal in seconds a get most all this information.Looks easy, but takes years of experience.
