Why was the conventional wheeled armored car impractical for use on the battlefields of France?

During World War I, the conventional-wheeled armored car was impractical for use on the battlefields of France because of its inability to negotiate the rough terrain on which it needed to be deployed. As a result, tracked vehicles were devised that could handle the adverse ground-conditions, although their slow speed prevented them from having a decisive impact during the war.
