How do you put the E Ring back on the rear wheel of a Lawn Tractor?

put the ring in place above the axle, open side facing down, hold it with your hand and take some large vise grips or pliers and put one side of it under the axle and the other side on top of the e ring and squeeze it in place, hold your free hand over it so if it doesn't go on the first time it doesn't fly away. Once it's part way on, you can tap it down with either the vise grips or hammer or screwdriver handle end.
