Cleopatra VII, the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, was not Arabic; she was of Macedonian Greek descent. Her family, the Ptolemies, were descendants of Ptolemy I Soter, a general of Alexander the great, and they ruled Egypt after Alexander's death. Cleopatra's ancestry included some Egyptian heritage through her mother, but she predominantly identified with her Greek roots. The Arabic presence in Egypt came much later, after the Arab conquest in the 7th century.
