My 1989 Mercedes 300e will start but when you step on the gas it will stall?

My 88 kind of does this. Since I'm a new MBZ fan I don't have all answers. I give it the least possible pedal until a couple of minutes pass at which point the warm engine runs smooth and idles where it should. Too much pedal and mine stalls. Plan to do a complete tuneup. I'm sure a set of Bosch plugs and wires will help. Inclined to think that all 20 yr old cars need more warmup time as they aren't equipped with modern cold start technology.
