Who made the first skateboard and why?

The first skateboards were created in the late 1940s and early 1950s by surfers in California who wanted to find a way to practice Surfing on land when the waves were flat. They adapted wooden boxes or planks with roller skate wheels to mimic the feeling of riding a surfboard. This early version of Skateboarding was called "sidewalk surfing," and it quickly gained popularity, leading to the development of more refined skateboards in the following decades.
