James B. Groome (born April 4, 1838 in Elkton, Maryland; died October 5, 1893 in Baltimore, Maryland) succeeded William Pinkney White as the thirty-sixth Governor of Maryland, serving between March 4, 1874 and January 12, 1876. Following the end of Groome's term as Governor, John Lee Carroll (born September 30, 1830 in Baltimore, Maryland; died February 27, 1911 in Washington DC) became the thirty-seventh Governor of Maryland, serving between January 12, 1876 and January 14, 1880.
