What did beaches look like before they were formed?

Before beaches were formed, coastal areas were typically characterized by rocky shorelines, cliffs, or marshy wetlands. Erosion and sediment deposition played significant roles in shaping these landscapes, as waves and currents wore away rocks and transported sand and other materials. Over time, this sediment accumulated along the shore, gradually creating the sandy or pebbly expanses we now recognize as beaches.
