Cutting down trees has a catastrophic effect on rainfall. The less trees there are in a given area, the less rainfall there is.

tree roots hold the soil together and stop erosion.

in the water cycle, rain falls from the sky and is intercepted by trees and buildings. water vapour the has to evaporate from the leaves of trees into the air by a process called transpiration. if there are no trees, there will be less transpiration and in turn, probably less rainfall.
