The coffee was called 'Chock Full O' Nuts' by the owner, William Black, in 1926, because his business was originally a nut business.
William Black originally sold nuts in his shop. But when the Great Depression struck, he decided to help his fellow neighbourhood by converting his nut shop into a coffee shop. Where the poor who had been hit with poverty, in Williams Words, "can have a coffee and sandwich for just a nickel".
It stayed as a coffee shop after the Great Depression, leading to it's popularity today.
