The saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis), also known as the "Asian unicorn," is a critically endangered mammal native to the Annamite Range of Vietnam and Laos. Discovered only in 1992, it has distinctive long, straight horns and a unique appearance, resembling a cross between an antelope and a cow. Saolas inhabit dense, mountainous forests and are elusive, making them difficult to study; they primarily feed on leaves and shrubs.
