September 4, 2009 The 1856 Seated Liberty dime was minted in 2 varieties, large date and small date, and was produced at 3 US Mint facilities; Philadelphia which is shown here as 1856-P, New Orleans which is shown here as 1856-O and San Francisco which is shown here as 1856-S. To determine which coin you have it is necessary to locate the mint mark. This mark is a small letter located on the reverse[tails] side of the coin just below the Word "DIME".
