They are a group of acts that were mainly used to gain even more control over the American colonies.

Five distinct laws are often referred to under the heading "the Townshend Acts": the Revenue Act of 1767, the Indemnity Act, the Commissioners of Customs Act, the Vice Admiralty Court Act, and the New York Restraining Act. All of these laws were passed by the British Parliament and imposed taxes on the the Thirteen American Colonies. These taxes were poorly received in the Thirteen Colonies and helped to galvanize anti-British sentiment in the Colonies.
The Townshend Acts were a series of acts that were passed, beginning in 1767, by Parliament of Great Britain and related to British colonies in the North America.
