How do you use a star chart?

I have used the stars (the Sun) to cross the Atlantic Ocean, to find my way in the woods during the day (the Sun), to grow crops (Freedom Garden, sunlight, season-tracking) and to find my way at night in the woods (Polaris, or The North Star). With a magnifying glass, a fire may be initated for warmth or cooking. it is quite possible that every civilization has used the stars. However, I also wish upon one every time I see a shooting star.
