When planning your garden, you should try to find (1) a sunny spot, (2) near a water source (rain barrel or hose - unless you plan on carrying water in a watering can, which is very time consuming). (3) You should probably consider which direction the sun is coming from so that you can plant taller growing plants further away from sun direction and smaller plants closer. Finally, (4) you should augment your soil with some kind of organic material, such as compost or manure, unless you already have very enriched topsoil to work with. When deciding which plants to plant, and when to plant and harvest, consider which planting zone you are in.
