Sunni Muslims recognized Abu Bakr as the first caliph after the death of Prophet Muhammad in 632 CE. He was chosen for his close companionship with the Prophet and leadership qualities. During his caliphate, Abu Bakr consolidated the Muslim community and initiated the Ridda wars to unify the Arabian Peninsula. His leadership laid the groundwork for the expansion of the Islamic state.
