They did not stop using Shillings in Victorian times.

The British have used the Shilling since about 1550 until the introduction of decimal currency in 1971.

I visited the UK for the first time in late 1971, during the transition, and shopkeepers and restaurants were struggling with "new pence" vs. shillings.
