What can a women wear for a semi formal event other than a dress?

theres lots of things you could wear... a nice suit a formal type skirt & blouse, just jazz it up at bit with accessories so that it dosent look like your going for a job interview! a nice pair of trousers and a glitzy top with a small cardigan or jacket could i ask why dont you want to wear a dress? :-)
