Sir Edmund Hillary, along with Tenzing Norgay, started their expedition up Mt. Everest from the south side in Nepal. They began their journey in the town of Lukla, which served as a base for their trek to Everest Base Camp. From there, they ascended towards the mountain, ultimately reaching the summit on May 29, 1953.
