It is not known how St. Martha died. She was the sister of Mary of Bethany. You can read about her in The Bible (Luke & John). She prepared a meal for Jesus and his disciples then went to Jesus and complained Mary did nothing while she had to do all the work. Jesus reminded her that Mary had chosen 'the best part.' St. Martha was at the tomb of her brother Lazarus. She has great faith that her brother will rise again in the resurrection on the last day and Jesus confirms this. The cult of St. Martha started approximately in the year 1200. No one knows where or how she died or if it was a martyr's death or a natural one. She is the patroness for whom Jesus was like family and therefore, a powerful one in the presence of God because she took care of the hungry and the followers of Jesus knew her as the Patroness of housewives, waiters and waitresses.
