Almost everyone if not everyone on the planet was affected by it one way or another. World trade was affected by nations being at war which affected the flow of goods around the world thus some resources and everyday things changed in most nations, citizens of most nations had friends or family fighting in the war or went to fight in it themselves (even if their country was not involved), woman while not playing a large role in combat in the western world often took over for the husbands and other men fighting in the war by working in factories and many other fields of work (some for the first time in that era). Several groups of people if not most all political race, sexuality, religious where targeted by Nazis for extermination and where killed when their countries where occupied.

In civilian life, nationalism became excessive with many being arrested or outlasted (even in western countries) for showing any sympathy for enemy ideology or against fighting in the war. Research and scientist changed their focus to weapons research and many inventions came out of the war such as long rang missiles and the earliest computers. The war also brought about a change in politics's after the end of the war the UN was created to make sure it would not happen again.

In short the answer is everyone was affected by the war, it truly was a world war.
