I might be able to shed a little light here. The radio has a code that needs to be re-entered after you disconnect the battery. If you don't know the code, you have a couple of options. One is to take the car to a dealership and ask for help. I'm told that they can do it easily, but charge an arm and a leg to do it. The other option is Ebay. Yep! Ebay. There are guys there who will sell you the directions on how to retrieve the code, or at least how to get started. There are also guys there who will sell you the directions how to reprogram your key fob. I've actually used the key fob directions they provided for my '96 with success.

KEY FOB: basicly, pull the carpet away from the inside of the rear driver's side fender inside the trunk. If you see a black box there, continue. If you don't, these directions won't work for you. Coming out of the black box is a connector which has nothing plugged into it. Fashion a paper clip or piece of wire into a U shape. Stick it in the connector to effectively short it. You should hear the power locks cycle. While holding the clip in place, press and hold any button on the key fob until you hear the locks cycle again. You're done. Now, I've had varying luck getting the locks to cycle the second time, but the key fob worked. It's worth a try!
