Why is french spoken in Geneva?

Switzerland is a country made up of people from the surrounding countries and has 4 official languages, French, German, Italian and Swiss. The latter is a dialect spoken by very few people, mainly those in the German speaking areas outside of the big cities.

The language and area speaks is usually related to the country that has the closest border. In the case of Geneva, it is located in the French speaking area.

Most Swiss can speak the language of the area they were born in plus English and the other two languages of Switzerland.
