The first Christmas card is credited to Sir Henry Cole, a British civil servant, who commissioned it in 1843. The card, designed by John Calcott Horsley, featured a family celebrating together and included a message wishing a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Around 1,000 copies were printed and sent out, marking the beginning of the tradition of sending Christmas cards.
