Yes, Polar Bears are able to walk backwards. I'm not sure what, why, or who studied this and put the research data together. But it would seem, that when most Polar Bears deficate, or go to the bathroom, they have a certain procedure they go through. This involves walking backwards several steps. They will walk backwards, taking larger steps with the front paws than, with the back ones, and in about five to six steps their front paws are almost on top of their back paws. This causes their "bum" to stick out, and then they can answer the call of nature, by lifting their stubby little tail deficating.
