Hunters and gathering tribes depended upon the animal and weather cycles. They had to follow herds who migrated. Also as the cold settled in, they had to follow the game to areas more likely to support animals during the long cold months.

Homes of a more permanent nature were erected by those tribes who gardened because it was not as imperative to follow the herds. They grew much of what they needed and hunted during the spring and summer to add to their food stores.
