How do you treat someone that has been paralyzed?

Care would most likely be arranged with a professional, or the family caregiver would be trained before the patient is released from the hospital/rehabilitation center.

Care includes bowel/bladder control, pressure sore management and prevention, physical therapy, and occupational rehabilitation when possible. Taking into consideration the change in quality of life, there will be a mourning period of dreams perhaps lost. Caregivers should find creative ways to engage the mind in interests that the patient has, and cautiously find ways to meet the emotional needs of the patient.
