Fat is used as an energy store (reserve), when energy is not readily available in the blood stream from food. It is mainly used for warmth as a layer called the subcutaneous fat just underneath the skin. Additional fat which accumulates beneath the skin, commonly known as cellulite, can cause health issues, when in excess, such as obesity, Diabetes, varicose veins, high blood pressure, high cholesterol eventually leading to heart attack stroke or fatality.
