What role did Caribbean have in World War 2?

In World War 2, German Submarines prowled the Caribbean. They wanted to prevent tankers from carrying oil from Venezuela and Texas to North Africa and England. They sank a number of ships. Costa Rica sent a few troops to fight Japan in the Pacific.
