The Loch Ness monster is believed to be a ancient dinosaur known as a PlesiOSaur which lived in the late Triassic period. Studies from the skeleton have shown that the PlesiOSaur would have been like a whale in that it would be a warm blooded mammal which breathed air, produced milk for it's young possibly and gave birth to live young tail first. It most likely survived by being able to take a large lungful of air and hold it for perhaps hours. Stomach contents have shown grit contained in the stomach which would have been used to counteract it's buoyancy and allow it to spend long periods of time deep in the extreme pressure of the deep ocean bottoms.
