Monochromatic means "having or appearing to have only one color".
This usually refers to pictures that only have pure black and pure white, with no other colors or shades of gray.
For example: Line art is monochromatic, because it consists of black lines on a white background. A black & white photograph is not monochromatic because it had shades of gray.
