Akhenaton moved the ancient Egyptian capital from Thebes to a new city called Akhetaten, modern-day Amarna. This relocation was part of his religious revolution, which centered on the worship of the sun disk Aten. Akhetaten was designed as a center for this new monotheistic worship and featured unique architectural styles that reflected Akhenaton's vision. The city was abandoned shortly after his death, and the capital eventually returned to Thebes.
