The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh did not cross the Jordan River to enter the Promised Land. Instead, they settled on the eastern side of the river, in the land of Gilead and Bashan, which they found suitable for their livestock. Their decision was based on the fertility of the land and their needs as pastoralists.
