What does laser mean in medical terms?

The acronym laser means Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Light energy has the same meaning in any industry. In medicine however we try to match a chromophore or color target to a specific wavelength. This chomophore can be any type of structure in the body. There are many types of lasers that we use in medicine because there is such a diversity of chromophores. We can also pulse the laser energy in a short burst so that we can distroy objects such as Kidney Stones. Lasers have and will continue to have a great impact on medicine.
