What would happen if tigers went extinct?

If tigers went extinct there would be no more tigers on the planet. This means that boars and other prey of the tigers would be able to breed and multiply with less control from the predator. The extinction of tigers would be a huge loss for mankind and might also show that our ability to protect a species is sorely lacking.
