U.S. coins never carry the image of a president while they are in office. JFK's picture wasn't put on the half dollar until after his death. The first ones are dated 1964.
Please check again and post a new question with the coin's date and design. If the date is in fact 1963 your coin carries a picture of BEN FRANKLIN who was much older and MUCH balder than JFK.
Since Kennedy half dollars weren't minted until 1964, a 1963 coin would be quite extraordinary. Both 1963 Franklin half dollars and 1964 Kennedy half dollars are composed of 90% silver and weigh about 0.36 troy ounces. With silver at $35 (as of 2011), that equates to a "melt value" of about $13. Neither of the abovementioned coins are rare, so unless they were uncirculated or better, neither would be worth much more than that.Copyright © 2026 eLLeNow.com All Rights Reserved.
