The mosque built in Jerusalem on the site where the Second Temple once stood is the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is part of the larger Al-Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary). It was commissioned by the Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan in the late 7th century, with construction completed around 705 CE. The Dome of the Rock, another significant Islamic structure located on the same site, was also built during his reign, completed in 691 CE.
