"margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:normal;">There is not such a
thing as Roman classical civilisation. There is not such a thing as
classical civilisation either. The term is classical,
period/age/era or classical antiquity. It refers to the cultural
period in the history of the Mediterranean Sea when the culture of
the Greeks and Romans became intermingled through the cultural
influence of the former on the latter. It is therefore related to
the Greco-Roman world. The Greeks also had a strong influence of
the eastern part of the Roman Empire (the eastern Mediterranean)
because they had ruled this area for several centuries before the
arrival of the Romans. Greek was the lingual franca in this area.
The education of Roman elite men was both in Latin and Greek and
these men were fluent in Greek.
