In Louisiana is it legal to take a roadkill deer?

Here's what I've found out:

The accident should be reported to the police, though it isn't necessary to report it to insurance. If you want the deer, inform the officer of that and they will contact a Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries (DWF) official to let you do that. It is illegal if the DWF doesn't know about it and you are caught with it.

It's probably the same if you just see it on the road. I think the DWF just wants to keep tabs on the numbers, and make sure people aren't intentionally killing deer by hitting them.
