What are some problems with city buses?

City buses are slow because of the many stops and due to traffic. Their uses by the public can present a crime problem for riders (waiting for one, aboard one, or leaving one). Buses are seldom given any sanitizing because of the turnover in riders on their often-crowded schedules. This and generally insufficient cleaning allows them to harbor germs that can be contagious.

Additionally, diesel buses used by many large cities can be major polluters (fumes, leaking oil) unless properly maintained mechanically.
