Status: Needs an answer. Fairly profound starting point and not easily moved on from. Of course to quote Nikolas Rose 'it is the happy state of psychology that it's work is always enlivened by and relevent to everyday life.' The discapline as a whole would probably claim to have enhanced many aspects of everyday life - from fairer job selection and educational testing to councelling and general wellbeing. However others argue that psychological knowledges are mainly centred at the level of the individual - which it takes for the subject of its study - and therefore inherently serves the dominant western ideologies of individualism and capitalism. However as Foucault might have argued every knowledge produced which exerts power also at once produces a site of resistance. So we end up where we started. What does psychology do to help one of us?
