When was Portland settled?

Portland, Oregon, was settled in 1845 when two settlers, Francis W. Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy, established the town on the west bank of the Willamette River. The area was originally known as "Stumptown" due to the many tree stumps left after clearing land for development. Portland was officially incorporated in 1851.
