Leaks can do a lot of damage to your van. No only can the water that comes in damage your belonging, cause electrical issues, and get you wet, the long term issue is rust. Rust is just plain evil. It can eat away at your vehicle until there is nothing left but a thing shell which can then break away. It can damage structural strength and lead to huge holes that will let in more water.

Thankfully fixing small leaks is easy and inexpensive most of the time.

You will need:

1. A cheap paint brush (because you are going to throw it away afterwards for sure)

2. A tube of silicon sealant the closest colour you can get o your vehicle's colour, or clear.

3. A tube plunger.

4. A cloth and scorer.

5. Masking tape.

6. Some way to get on the roof of your vehicle such as a ladder.

Do this on a dry, sunny day.

Climb up the ladder or other method of allowing you to look at your vehicle's roof. Look for leaks where metal plates join, where paint has cracked and especially where rust has formed or you have drilled holes in the roof. Clean away flaked or chipped paint with the cloth and if necessary, a scorer but try not to scratch the rest of the paint. Clean out rust and dirt. Allow the surface to dry if required.
